Post 5: Comparative

In the movie “practical magic” there are two sister witches. They come from a history of witches, just like the six witches in “The Secret Circle”. One of the sisters had a crazy boyfriend who tried hurting her; in the moment of being scared she killed him and thought it would solve her problems. Though when he started to come back and haunt her the two sisters tried to use dark magic to bring him back. Thus making thins worse they decide to bury and keep him dead. The two movies both show how dark magic only comes with consequences. The two movies both show different views on witchcraft and how it can be used.

Post 4: The Balcoin Medallion

The Balcoin Medallion is used to transfer dark Magic. Cassie Blake wants to learn about her self and her past because no one has told her she is a witch. As she begins searching she finds out her father was John Blackwell, a dark and evil witch. She then learns that she has dark magic as well. She goes to look for the medallion that John used to kill the witch hunters with. Cassie and her friends research the Medallion and find out that it is used to take other witches Magic. Cassie then realizes the symbol on the Balcoin Medallion is the Blackwell family symbol. When Cassie meets her father she see's the symbol on the medallion is burned onto his hand. As we learn about John Blackwell, we realize he did not love Cassie's mom or any other woman for he had six children with six different witches. He did this so he could create his own circle, and it be filled with dark magic. He then could be the ruler of the most powerful circle. Diana is a witch apart of the Chance Harbor circle, and another one of Blackwell's children. Diana teams up with Cassie in the season finale to once and for all get rid of their father. Diana was totally against the use of dark magic, but the only way the save all of their friends, and any witch who didn't have dark magic; was to join together and use their dark magic to kill John. They teamed up and together destroyed their father. At the end of the finale we learn that the four other Blackwell children have arrived in chance Harbor to bind their circle.  We see at the end they all have the Medallion symbol burned onto their hands as well.

Post 3: Review

The "Circle" is focused on Cassie Blake, who returns to town to live with her grandmother after the death of her mother. When Cassie returns she finds out from some of her class mates she is a witch, and that they all come from a long line of witches. Cassie is asked to complete the circle for them, to make them all more powerful than ever. The critic said "when the episode ended I wanted to know more about the circle. Both it's history and where it was headed" (Rackl).

Post 1: Primary Source

In the show "The Secret Circle" Cassie and her five friends come from a long line of witches. Individually they all have power. One of the witches found her book of shadows and read a spell of binding their circle. If their circle is bind together it takes away their individual powers. Though because Cassie has dark magic in her she is faced with tough decisions on resisting the use of the dark magic and controlling her emotions, or helping her self and friends by using it to protect them. There was a boat fire one night while their parents were still in high school. Each of the six witches lost at least one parent that night. After that the elders stripped all the withes of their powers and magic was forbidden. The circle wants to find answers of what happen that night on the boat yard and why magic is now forbidden to use.
